Iron Studies
This panel checks how much iron your body has stored and how well it's transported through your blood, using three related measurements: ferritin, serum iron, and TIBC. It's commonly used to help diagnose iron deficiency anemia or, less often, iron overload.

About This Test
Iron studies use three related measurements to give a fuller picture of your iron status than any one test alone. Ferritin reflects how much iron your body has in storage, serum iron measures the iron actively circulating in your blood, and TIBC shows how well your blood can transport iron. Together, these results are commonly used to help diagnose iron deficiency anemia or, less often, conditions involving too much iron in the body.
