About This Test
A renal panel checks how well your kidneys are filtering waste, balancing electrolytes, and maintaining fluid balance. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine are waste products that your kidneys normally filter out, so elevated levels can signal reduced kidney function. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), calculated from your creatinine level, estimates how efficiently your kidneys are filtering blood. Sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate round out the panel to check your electrolyte and acid-base balance.
